Lakeview Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of its medical scholarships for the 2009-2010 academic year. This year scholarships were awarded to 23 students who are pursuing medical careers. Scholarships are funded through the generous support of the Andersen Corporate Foundation and the Lakeview Bridge Marathon.
The Alice Anderson Nursing Scholarships, in honor of a former Lakeview nurse, were awarded to Melissa Barritt, Cheryl Belisle, Sonja Bergie, Jade Boughton, Sheila Engle, Bobbie Fjorden, Jennifer Fletch, Stephanie Green, Tiger Heise, Kristine Jackson, Jean Melin, Barbara Miner, Linda Olson, Katelyn Pedersen, Alicia Schaub, Kristi Theede, Ashley Zilles and Abby Zylla. The Jo Wright Dickinson Scholarship, in honor of Jo Wright Dickinson who founded the scholarship program, was awarded to Kaylyn McDaniel, a senior nursing student in the BSN program at the University of Minnesota. The David Wettergren Scholarship, established in 2009 in honor of the long-serving Lakeview Health and Lakeview Hospital Board chairman, was awarded to University of Minnesota-Duluth medical school student Joshua Peltier, who demonstrated a strong commitment to the community through his volunteerism in the Duluth area. Peltier will be doing a three-week internship with Stillwater Medical Group under Drs. Balder and Powell. The Bonnie Nutting Scholarship, in honor of Lakeview Hospital volunteer Bonnie Nutting, was awarded to Nick St. Ores, a medical school student at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Lakeview Foundation Scholarships were awarded to Rachel Ries and Danielle Yarusso for their post graduate studies.
The scholarship program was established to assist local students who are pursuing an advanced education in medicine or nursing, and has expanded over time to recognize the ongoing needs of both our community and our hospital for qualified, caring healthcare professionals.
